The Superpower Institute strongly welcomes the Western Australian Government’s announcement of a new target of 75 per cent renewable electricity by 2030/31.
Rod Sims, Chair, The Superpower Institute, said:
“Western Australia has world-leading wind and solar resources and renewable energy is now the lowest cost form of new electricity generation.
“A larger and cheaper clean energy system will be the base for the industries of the future like green iron, other processed metals, fertilisers and fuels. All depend on large volumes of low-cost renewable electricity.
“Western Australia is better placed than almost anywhere to produce them.”
Baethan Mullen, CEO, The Superpower Institute, said:
“This is a welcome and important decision. Renewables are the cheapest source of new power, and Western Australia has wind and sun of a quality few places on earth can match.
“A renewable energy target for WA sends a clear signal to investors in the superpower industries that will underpin the state’s future economic prosperity.
“The starting point will be green iron. With cheap, clean power we can process iron ore into green iron here in WA, and do the same for other metals, fertilisers and fuels.
“We look forward to working with the WA Government on the policies that will turn it into new industries, jobs and exports.”
