On 5 June 2025, Professor Ross Garnaut joined a panel of experts – including Prof Anne E. Harrison, Mari Elka Pangestu, Prof Danny Quah – for a timely evaluation of how major economies are practicing industrial policy.

Speakers examine principles for effective and development-oriented industrial policy and propose frameworks for addressing its global implications.

The panel event was a part of the 2025 Pacific Trade and Development (PAFTAD) Conference, and moderated by PIIE Reginald Jones Senior Fellow Chad P. Brown.

Ross Garnaut AC is a renowned economist specialising in development, economic policy and international relations. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences. His contributions to trade policy and climate change have made him a trusted adviser to successive Australian governments.
