Webinar—Modelling green iron in five Australian locations

Energy and infrastructure needs, transport costs and other location-specific factors shape the economics of production – explore the details and implications for where and how an Australian green iron industry might grow.

Webinar presented on 19 June, 2025

In the final session of the three-part series on A Green Iron Plan for Australia: Securing Prosperity in a Decarbonising World, Bivios Australia Director Max van Someren, and TSI economist Ben Scott, present the results of regional modelling for green iron production across five locations: the Eyre Peninsula, Geraldton, Gladstone, Kwinana, and the Pilbara.

The session examines how location-specific factors – such as renewable energy availability, grid access, transport logistics and infrastructure – shape the economics of production. It will explore which configurations are lowest cost, where flexibility adds value, and what these findings mean for the development of a green iron industry in Australia.

This webinar series is dedicated to unpacking TSI’s latest report: 'A Green Iron Plan for Australia: Securing Prosperity in a Decarbonising World' – a blueprint for how Australia can lead in the production and export of low-emissions iron, supporting a reduction in global emissions while helping industrial economies decarbonise without sacrificing growth or energy security.
