On Wednesday 27 November, TSI hosted a roundtable discussion based around the ideas of Ross Garnaut's latest work, 'Let's Tax Carbon: And Other Ideas for a Better Australia'.

Featuring an introduction from Productivity Commission Chair Danielle Wood and contributions from TSI chair Rod Sims and CEO Baethan Mullen. The session explored Australia's poor economic performance over the past decade and what is needed to bring Australia back to a period of prosperity, towards full employment and real wage growth.

Ross Garnaut

Ross Garnaut AC is a renowned economist specialising in development, economic policy and international relations. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences. His contributions to trade policy and climate change have made him a trusted adviser to successive Australian governments.

Rod Sims

Chair, The Superpower Institute

Rod Sims is Enterprise Professor at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Melbourne, and Chair of The Superpower Institute. He previously chaired the ACCC (2011-2022), served as Deputy Secretary (Economic) in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, and Principal Economic Adviser to PM Bob Hawke (1988-1990).

Baethan Mullen

Chief Executive Officer

Baethan Mullen has over 20 years of experience in public policy, economics and advocacy. Prior to joining the Superpower Institute, Baethan was General Manager of Economics & International at the ACCC, and led the largest energy efficiency program in Australia as Executive Director at the Essential Services Commission.
